Can you beleive it? Now the Environmental Working Group released a scare that sunscreen could cause Cancer.
A report was released on May 24th 2010 questinoing the effectiveness of sunblock. Five hundred sunblock products were tested and only 39 were approved.
There are many chemicals in sunblock to make the ointment clear in color and easy to glide on your skin. Many of the older sunblocks were opaque and these seem to be the best. The best choices should contain Zinc or Titanium.
Many of the sunscreens, we use today, have a vitamin A compound called Retinyl palmitate and another called oxybenzone. The article says these are the worst chemicals because retinyl could be photocarcinogenic. This could cause Cancer when exposed to the sun. Sprays and powders are not good if inhaled either.
If you want to find out about the sunscreen you are using, go to EWG.org Here you can type in your favorite sunscreen and see how dangerous it is. Several sunblock lotions were mentioned.
Burn Out Clean and Clear Zinc Oxide Sunblock SPF 32 which goes on clear.
Eucerin Face Sensitive Skin Everyday Protection Lotion SPF 30
ZinClear SPF 30 orNo fragrnace SPF +30 Sunscreen lotion
It is still important that we use a sunscreen to protect us from ultraviolet rays or wear protective clothing says the Centers for Disease Control and for Prevention of skin Cancer. We are too trusting to think that what we rub on our skin may not be chemically good for us. What next?
