Winfield, Kansas is a picker's paradise and The Walnut Valley Festival is held the 3rd weekend of September. This years 39th Walnut Valley Festival and National Championships will entertain the best of the best, nation-wide and international string pickers .
Pickers will play to win the National & International Championship Award. National Championships include: Old time fiddle: Mountain Dulcimer; Mandolin; Flat pick Guitar; Hammer Dulcimer and Bluegrass Banjo. This years international championships are for Autoharp and Finger style Guitar.
Your head will be swimming with sounds of celtic, bluegrass, old time country and all other acoustic styles of folk music from around the world.
There will be five stages of performers starting at 9 am to 11:30 pm each day. Some performers offer hands on workshops for a small fee. If you play an instrument, you can learn new ways to finger or chord. They are worth the time. Lastly, there are always crafters to sell their items that relate to the music styles. Examples include: drawings, jewelry. paintings, wood, glass, metal. leather. herbals and children items.
The Festival kicks off on Wednesday evening and goes through Sunday.
