James Cameron and His Films

James Cameron's full name is James Francis Cameron. He was born in August of 1954 in Kapuskasing, Ontario, Canada. His is a six foot two inch man that has two nicknames: Jim and Iron Jim. When he was a young child, he was described as a loner, one of those nerdy kids, a kid who didn’t really fit in. His greatest interest was in exploring new things.

At the age of fifteen, Cameron already realized what he wanted to do in life. It happened one night when he was watching a movie at the movie theater. He was mesmerized by how the movie was made; he wanted to know everything. He used a 16 mm camera and started taking pictures of things in the movies, like his own star eclipse. In 1971, he got a lucky break when his father was offered a job in Orange Country, California. He was excited to be living only a few miles from Hollywood.

He has been a film director, editor, inventor, producer, and screenwriter since 1978. He has directed and written movies like "Terminator" in 1984, "Alien" in 1986, "The Abyss" in 1989, and "Judgment Day" and "Terminator II" in 1991. His other movies included "True Lies" in 1994, "Titanic" in 1997, and, in 2009, "Avatar."

Cameron has put a lot of time into remote vehicle technologies and underwater filming. He has taken some years in writing documentary films and he developed the digital 3D Fusion Camera Systems. A biographer describes Cameron as part artist and part scientist. He is one of the highest grossing directors of all time, with numbers around $4.6 billion worldwide. The two highest grossing films of all time were "Titanic" and "Avatar."
