Tennessee State Museum

Tennessee is not just known as the state of Elvis Presley and the heart of Country Music, but also for the beautiful Tennessee State Museum. The museum in Tennessee is known to be one of the largest museums in the nation. The museum features art, history and culture; and over the years has exhibited silver, weapons from various wars, quilts and paintings.

In 1817 a man by the name of Ralph E.W. Earl opened the doors to the museum when it was located on the Nashville public square. Mr. Earl was a portrait artist and he displayed his portraits in the museum. In 1981 the museum was moved to the new James K. Polk center. This building has three floors and covers 120,000 square feet with 60,000 square feet for exhibits.

The Tennessee Museum holds many memories and stories of famous Americans like Andrew Jackson, Daniel Boone, David Crockett, Sam Houston and Cordell Hull. It tells of the African-American soldiers of the civil war. You can find information on the first free black family that lived in Knoxville before and after the war. In the museum you can see flags and the meaning of each one. You can also read about the history of the museum and Tennessee it self.

Tennessee is also known as a tourist attraction for it is where the Grand Ole Opry is located. The Country Music Hall of Fame is where you can see Elvis' gold Cadillac and his piano on display. For those who would like to visit the Tennessee State Museum the address is 505 Deaderick St. or visit the web site.

I lived in Tennessee as a child and recently moved back here. The Tennessee Museum is one of my favorite memories and going there through the years has been a wonderful experience. I really enjoyed this blog.

    Thank you,
