Using the Right Bait for Fishing

Fishing is a fun and challenging sport that anyone can engage in. Some people engage in fishing for pleasure, while others find it a bit more challenging and will look for the chance to enter fishing tournaments. To be a successful angler takes years of practice.

Learning about what kind of fishing rod is best for each catch is important, as well as the right weight of line, the right hook, and the best bait for each species of fish. Talking to other anglers is the best way to learn about fishing. You may have learned a few tactics from your grandfather, father, or friend, or you may learn to fish from trial and error.

When fishing for bass you want to have a variety of baits. Baits that work well are plastics, jigs, crank baits, and spinner baits. Catfish on the other hand prefer live baits, such as minnows, earth worms, crickets, pond frogs, or shad. They will also bite most anything that has fat in it, such as hot dogs, or even soap containing a heavy fat content. To catch crappie, it is best to fish for them when they are spawning. Crappie bite on jigs and many times color is a factor when they are not spawning. You can catch saltwater fish on different types of lures, but they are usually much larger than those of your average river or lake fish.

It is important to know what type of bait will attract each species of fish for a successful fishing trip. There are also fishing guide services available for those who are unsure of what bait works best in which waters, and they offer advice on catching different species fish in the area.
