Canoeing

North American natives dug out the middle of trunks of trees to build canoes. They used canoes as sources of transportation to commute to other islands. Later, Canadian natives crafted canoes using wooden ribs covered with bark from birch trees to navigate many water ways. Spruce bark was used in the arctic area. White pine root pulled canoes groves together. Spruce or pine resin was heated and put on canoe to act as a waterproof substance.

Initially the kayak or K-boat was meant for one person while the Canadian or C-boat type was meant for two. Today canoes are manufactured in many parts of our nation and serve as sources for water activities and sports.

Canoeing in Florida offers many experiences. Santa Fe waterway is vivid water from a spring. Suwannee has miles of beaches with light sand. Peace River is a slower paddling experience due to its winding course. The Little Manatee River is considered to be Florida’s best canoeing experience with plenty of shade. Canoeing the boundary waters from Minnesota to Canada is far more challenging. Typically, canoeing in boundaries is a week or two’s trip by water. You paddle through amazing scenery, rushing waters, great fishing areas, wildlife, forests, and past water falls that are only see via canoeing. This trip encompasses nature with its full beauty. Namekagon River is in Wisconsin’s glacial moraine lake area. This river travels through sandy mounds formed by recessed glaciers and rapids as eagles zoom in air, busy otters near banks, and deer grazing.
