Pioneer Village in Minden, Nebraska is said to be a slice of authentic America. There in the complex you can visit 28 buildings on 20 acres with a Frontier fort, a real Pony Express station and an Iron Horse and a sod house. There is a store stocked with toys and goods from years gone by. The only day of the year the Village is not open is December 25. On all others days of the year it is open, including major holidays.
You can also visit the old church, one room school house and many other sites from the early years of the settling of Nebraska. In the museum there are many exhibits of old cars, over 350 in all, hundreds of musical instruments, bicycles and toys, 17 historical flying machines and 100 antique tractors.
There is over 50,000 items in the museum for your enjoyment. This is the largest private collection of yesteryear Americana memorabilia anywhere. There is also a steam carousel you can ride. There is a collection of the original art of Currier and Ives. There is also a fly-in that was held in August and an Invention Convention so inventors can bring their homemade inventions. This will be held in March of 2010. The June Pioneer Village Days will be held on the June 5-6 when inventors come again from all over to display their newest inventions. As well, you surely don't want to miss the Fourth of July celebration. This celebration is done in the manner of 100 years ago with the old fashioned theme. There are also accommodations for all. In March 2010, the Elder Hostel program is all about the Sand Hill Crane migration to the Platte River just north of Minden.
