Water skiing is a very fun summer sport that takes courage and a good sense of balance. Teaching someone to ski takes time and a great deal of patience. To learn to ski, it is good to know what to expect and what you will need to be doing while being pulled behind the boat. First of all, it is best not to attempt to learn how to ski until you are definitely ready; if you have any apprehensions, you should wait until the apprehensions no longer exist. You should also have good swimming abilities and be comfortable in the water.
Knowing these few things about form will go a long way in having a successful first attempt at skiing. It is good to keep your knees bent and keep them together; also try to keep your weight more on the balls of your feet than on your heels. You also need to keep your chin up and your arms straight. Along with the driver of the boat, there should be a spotter as well. A spotter is always watching you and can inform the driver if there is something you need. You as the skier need to know the signals for starting, stopping, increasing speed, decreasing speed, and danger so you can communicate with the spotter.
Once you are up on your skis, remain right behind the boat until you feel secure and strong. If you want to go a little faster, you can signal the spotter and he or she will inform the driver. After you have mastered skiing in the boat’s wake, you can try moving off to the side by going over the wake at a thirty degree angle. Then when you get really confident, you can try slalom skiing with one ski.
