Traditionally, a tractor is seen in a field on a farm, doing its job of pulling in the context of providing a service in the area of agriculture. But, what about pulling for fun and completion?
Tractor pulling can be a very energy driven and loud way of spending a day; it is a combination of watching powerful machines, complete with a custom paint job on its body, pulling a sled down a dirt track. It may seem simple, but tractor pulling is more than just a machine exerting raw power as it expels a gray plum of exhaust through some chrome polished oversized pipes. There are different types of tractors as a modified tractor may have up to three V8 engines mounted on the front. Then, there are tractors that are propelled by diesel engines, in which these types of tractors resemble a bigger version of a regular tractor; this would apply to a John Deere pulling tractor as well. As well, the smaller of the tractors for pulling are the light modified class (under 5,700 pounds) with a super stalk tractor, which seems to look like a tractor with rear tires that look to be bigger than the tractor itself. It is just a balance between traction and torque.
Pulling a sled is dynamic and the rules vary depending on the division you are competing in. The type of tractor you are running is a factor as well. You can start by contacting the National Tractor Pullers Association at their website www.ntapull.com.
