Champ The Water Monster

Lake Champlain is the supposed home of a lake monster much like the Loch Ness monster of Scotland. This North American lake monster is referred to as Champ and there are hundreds of reported sightings. There is an ongoing obsession of visitors trying to capture a sighting or pictures of this elusive creature.

Many of the people that have viewed Champ believe he looks very much like the plesiosaur. This was a prehistoric reptile that lived in the water. These creatures had very long necks with a head that was much like a snake. In addition, the plesiosaur had four large flippers, which is supposed to be a feature that the sightings mention. This is the same type of creature that Nessie is thought to be in Loch Ness. The two lake areas are very similar, which tends to add to the comparisons.

People have been seeing Champ for centuries, yet the actual physical and photographic evidence is simply not available. There is one famous photograph that Sandra Mansi took in July of 1977 near Vermont that appears to be the most recognizable image of this lake monster. Like Nessie, there has enver been any physical remains found of this creature. This adds to the speculation and legend.

Many people come to Burlington, Vermont in hopes of catching a glimpse of Champ. Naturally there are all sorts of tourist items that can be purchased, and if you should luck up and actually catch a glimpse of the famous lake monster, you can even purchase a t-shirt to commemorate the occasion.
