Snorkeling is a great activity to learn, especially if you are planning to travel to a tropical climate where the water is very clear. There are some things you will need to take into account before even going snorkeling. You will first want to make sure that you get a mask and snorkel that fit correctly and are comfortable. Make sure that you have a good seal (mask to face) so that there will be no leaks when out in the water.
The next thing you will want to get is a good pair of fins. Though they are not required, they are very helpful and a pair of neoprene booties will make them fit more comfortably. It is very important that you have a snorkel that is in good working order as well. When snorkeling, you will want to make sure that you clear your ears regularly. This will make sure that you can equalize and not cause yourself inner ear damage.
You will want to pick your snorkeling site very carefully. This will depend upon your snorkeling experience and expertise. Some areas are more difficult to snorkel in then others. You will want to make sure that you know all the fees involved with snorkeling in the area that you choose. For early dives, you will want to pick an area with calm waters, high visibility, and no large obstacles in the water. Once you have found this place, have fun snorkeling and always follow all safety guidelines.
