Tips For The First Time Water Skiers

Learning to ski is different for everyone. Some people can jump in the water and the first time they try they pop right up on their skies. For others, it takes a bit longer. If you are having trouble, there are things to think about. It does take upper body and lower body strength. Before ski season begins one should think about doing some weight training. It also takes balance and there are things to improve balance as well. You could even find a professional to teach you how to ski.

Equipment is important when learning to ski. A lifejacket is the most important part; it is not only for safety but to help you stay center when in the water. Your lifejacket should fit perfectly and feel comfortable when on. Learning to put on the skis is sometimes the hardest thing for people. It is just a matter of practice. The boot of the ski must fit tightly, but comfortable at the same time. Once in the water with your skies on, and you have your balance, you are going to learn to get up on your skies.

Once you have the towrope in your hands and you are ready, the driver takes the slack out. You then align yourself straight with the boat. There should be about a foot of the ski tips out of the water. The position you will want your body to be in is your knees bent, back straight, and arms fully extended out in front of you. As you begin to come out of the water your legs will straighten a little and you want to learn to keep your back straight. The most important thing is that your arms are always fully extended in front of you to control any slack by pulling your arms back. Then you will want to slowly extend them out again. Have fun and relax, enjoy the learning experience.
