Snorkeling

Snorkeling has become a popular water recreational activity in recent years. Unlike scuba diving, snorkeling does not require large investments in gear and training. You will need a mask, snorkel, and some prefer fins. Of course, you must know how to swim.

To get the right snorkeling equipment, you may need to go to a scuba shop. Make sure the mask fits snugly on your face and provides a good seal that will not leak. Check the peripheral vision, as this may vary in the masks. They come in a range of prices, so cost will depend on the person and the extent of use that is intended. The snorkel must fit comfortably in your mouth and be strapped to the mask. Fins are not required, but can help to maneuver down more quickly on a breath of air. Comfort and fit are important, plus the size of the fin will determine how much strength is needed to move around.

Beginning snorkelers should be content to remain close to shore and observe local fish and aqua life to gain some level of skill before venturing out further into deeper waters. Once a level of skill and comfort are obtained, going out in a boat where there is less interference in the water will provide more access to the true experience of snorkeling. The clear waters will enhance the gorgeous colors and movements of the mysterious life under water.

As with any type of water activity, you are warned to never go out alone. Observe all the local rules and be careful not to disturb the natural habitat. Snorkeling can be a fun and relaxing activity without the expense and training of scuba diving.
