Tractor pulls have been an event the whole family can enjoy. The excitement of going to a tractor pull is made up of horsepower, noise, smells, crowds, and competition. Tractor pulls are like other motor sports in many ways, but the biggest difference is the power of the pull matters, not the speed.
Tractor pulls are done with antique tractors and new “modern” more powerful tractors. With such a power difference in the types of tractors, there are different types of tractor pulls for each group. More excitement usually comes from the newer “modern” tractors with more power, more noise, more danger most of the time, and larger crowds. Tractors compete by pulling a sled that transfers how much weight is being pulled as a tractor moves along. For antique tractors, sleds will transfer weight at a slower pace to be pulled due to the power the antique tractors have being much less. It will max out how much weight it can actually pull much faster than the newer, larger powered tractors. With antique tractor pulls, it also added to the excitement when sleds were not used, as instead flat wagons that spectators could all get on until the tractor was no longer able to pull were used. These pulls are not usually allowed any longer for obvious safety reasons, but were more exciting to participate in.
For many, tractor pulls have been a fun tradition that the whole family can enjoy together. Tractor pulls have much excitement in the competition of horsepower, but also amongst brand loyalists. Just as in other sports, most fans will have a favorite, whether it is John Deere, international brands, or Ford.
