Soldiers play a very important role in our society. The term soldiers includes service men and women from the Army, Air Force, Navy and Marines. Most U.S. presidents have at one time in their lives served in the military. Former soldiers are leaders in all branches of politics, industry, business and research.
The military teaches a young man or woman discipline, motivation, initiative and leadership. Soldiers have to be on time and with the proper equipment ready to do the assigned job. Today's military is an all volunteer force so any one that has enlisted has the motivation to go out and make a difference.
One of the benefits to serving in the military is help paying for college. A lot of soldiers take advantage of this benefit, showing a desire for self improvement. While in the military many soldiers learn to put the interests of others before their own interests and do the things that are best for the whole group instead of what is best for them.
Some people look at the military as just a machine set up to fight wars. There is so much more to the military. Today's military performs humanitarian relief missions in the US after natural disasters and goes all over the world for the same purpose. Soldiers perform many charitable acts in the communities around their bases. A good example of this is the Marine Corps Toys for Tots. While overseas many units sponsor orphanages and schools, helping them with books, toys and clothes.
